Throughout the years we've come across some common skincare mistakes that either a fellow HB babe has made and filled us in on, or we've made ourselves. We're all human we make mistakes...but let's fix them together!
As diligent as your skincare regime may be, you could still be making one of these common skincare mistakes, and it could be the only thing coming between you and your dream skin…
So let's jump right in babes!
Here are 5 common skincare mistakes you could be making:
1.Forgetting your upper lip. Did you know the lips age faster than the rest of your face? I remember getting trained by Caudalie while working at the Shangri-La Spa. We were getting trained on a new product line and she explained how we should be putting our eye creme on our upper lips as well! I was blown away that I never thought of this...and boy oh boy does it make a difference! Eye creams contain ingredients to boost collagen production and strengthen and tone the skin. 2. Not layering products correctly. If your anything like us and spend a good chunk of your paycheck on skincare you want to get the most out of your products! If you didn't know...there is a proper ruling when applying your products so that they can do their job properly and not just sit on your skin. We know It can get super overwhelming so we're gonna fill you in on the proper order! (you can save the diagram below to keep for reference) The lighter the product, the earlier in your skincare routine it should be applied to your skin. When you apply lighter products to your face first, they absorb quickly, allowing for the heavier products to sink into the skin as well. If you apply the heavier products first, they can potentially block the lighter ones from getting to your skin. See diagram below for proper order.
3.Forgetting your neck. It wasn't until I got micro needling done about 5 years ago that I noticed the aging on my neck. All those years bartending and not washing my neck caught up to me! When she asked if I wanted treatment brought down to my neck I initially said no to save money, but after she spent time showing me pictures and freaking me out I opted in...and it was the best thing I could've done! Luckily there are many treatments to turn back time but its much cheaper to be preventative and take proper care of your neck now (saving you lots of money down the road). Did you know you should actually continue your entire beauty regime all the way down to your chest, including cleansing, exfoliating, toning, and of course, moisturizing? Our neck shows signs of aging way before our faces do and with the ever-present "tech neck"please don't wait till you notice signs of aging, start TODAY!
4. Overdoing skincare products. I have fallen victim to this one in the past. When you're having a breakout you want to try everything to fix the problem, but when it comes to skincare less is best. Sometimes you can overuse products and even over exfoliate your skin, disrupting the skin’s protective barrier, and triggering breakouts. When it comes to active ingredients, try to remember – the stronger the ingredient, the less you should use it (always do a patch test first). Also, be sure to never use two strong formulas together (example: salicylic acid and a glycolic peel). We always recommend seeing an esthetician so they can asses your skin and better assist you in your skincare journey.
5.Not drinking enough water. If you ask any skincare guru what their number one skincare rule is, it’s to drink a lot of water. I feel like this one is said over and over again, but I know how often I have to remind myself, so I had to include it! Have you ever woken up after a night of drinking and noticed lines on your face more pronounced? That's because we are 64% water and when your body, and consequentially your skin, is dehydrated, it’ll look dull, your pores may become more obvious, and your fine lines will be more pronounced. So, make sure you drink at least two liters of water a day! Keep a glass of water beside your bed and try and drink it all right when you wake up.
